Our services in the field of Sustainable Energy

Our multidisciplinary team can support you in unlocking the energy efficiency potential of your organization, support deployment of renewable energy and enhance systems integration with:

Urban energy system analysis
High voltage power line - tower

  • Development of local energy balances covering relevant sources and carriers (fuels, electricity, heat, etc.) to identify the larger energy-consuming activities and energy losses.
  • Integration of decentralized energy - development of concepts for the use of local renewable energy resources in heating and cooling applications as well as in grid-connected decentralized electricity generation.
  • Identification and assessment of opportunities for the use of locally available surplus heat.
  • Assessment of the potential for District Energy, including viability assessments in comparison with single-building solutions.
  • Development of district energy concepts and business models with the engagement of key stakeholders and potential anchor loads.
  • Modeling of cenarios and pathways for the transition to clean and renewable energy - Simulation of hypothetical future energy systems, at community-scale or for a group of buildings, based on different combinations of generation and storage technologies to cover the projected demand (electricity and thermal energy). The model optimizes total system costs. Greenhouse gas emissions, energy security (e.g. plant’s ramping constraints) and surface area requirements are also considered.

Clean energy transition
Compass, to help you find the way

  • Development of a shared community-vision for the transition to sustainable energy through facilitated dialogue and workshops. Raising awareness of staff and stakeholders to the benefits and opportunities of clean energy. Discussion of the resources and policy instruments necessary for the development of a local / regional energy system that is clean, reliable, affordable and sustainable.
  • Exploration of local scenarios and pathways for the transition to clean and renewable energy with energy-systems modelling (see Urban Systems analysis for details). The preparatory work includes the development of local energy balances, mapping of local renewable energy potentials, surplus heat and/or waste, and mapping of related opportunities.
  • Development of sustainable energy concepts, strategies and action plans for the transition to sustainable energy, building on evidence-based future-scenarios exploration and consensus-building dialogue with the key stakeholders.
  • Support identification and prioritization of local sustainable energy policies and projects for higher uptake of energy efficiency measures and renewable energy.

Sustainable energy projects
Project development

  • Sustainability assessment of renewable energy projects, including assessment of the sustainability of renewable fuels and feedstocks
  • Techno-economic assessment of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, including viability assessment of innovative technologies and concepts. Technologies covered include solar thermal energy, grid-connected solar photovoltaic (residential and utility-scale), and biomass power generation.
  • Pre-feasibility studies of renewable energy projects, including grid-connected solar photovoltaic (residential and utility-scale), and biomass power generation.
  • Exploration of business models and funding options.
  • Development of procurement guidelines and documentation for the implementation of sustainable energy projects.
  • Development of procurement guidelines and documentation to support purchase of sustainable energy, namely to support the purchase of electricity from renewable origin, sustainable aviation fuels and other energy carriers.

Energy Management
Extract of a sample Sankey diagram

We support the implementation and maintenance of Energy Management Systems by private and public organizations according to recognized best practices, namely the international standard ISO 50001 and related standards in its series. This systematic approach for the continuous improment of energy performance is particularly useful for Organizations which are large energy consumers or which have high energy intensity.
